Siblings for Jane the daughter of Ann Conn and Robert Telford

Here is the latest of my adventures in Family Tree Click Here for the link  This is rather involved but gives the history of the changes that resulted in the deletions of Jane's siblings in Family Tree. It also demonstrates that Family Tree should be a collaborative effort and is not a private database. Comments and suggestions and criticisms are welcomed and appreciated.  As an aside, I maintain my own personal database and will gladly share what information that I have. I have for this exercise created a descendancy document of 129 pages and 6 generations with index of names of the descendants of the parents of George and Robert from my personal database and photos from Family Tree. There are 708 individuals and 136 marriages documented. This may not be complete, but I am working on it.

Thank you! Thank you!  This has been very aggravating. The American parents clearly are not the right family!   Telford is indeed a Scottish surname, and I am interested in finding the Scots-Irish connection (or cross over from Scotland).   Historically, it makes sense because the family according to all that I have read were never Catholic--a real indication that they came originally from England or Scotland.  The fact that they owned land also suggests that heritage, as well as the Armagh region.  The English were granting tracks of land to those who helped in the Irish wars.  So since the Telfords don't appear to be nobility, it is a possibility the land reward was a result of military service if not a purchase.  The records in this area of Ireland are a particular mess because of the civil wars--so much was destroyed. As a side note, one history noted that the Telfords were weavers--which was a home based, nicely middle class occupation and well-respected

My ancestor was their daughter, Eliza Victoria Telford, who married John McCarthy. He was living with the Anson Call family, who lived across the street from the Telfords. The Call home is still standing. However, the Telford home is no longer there. Eunice Merrill (moved in December 2017  from East Wenatchee WA to Alpine, UT)

Laurence, Thank you for your analysis. I am glad someone with analytical skills is watching this line. I’ve often wanted to investigate this line, but have not had the time. It could benefit from extensive old world research with the possibility of putting together an indirect proof of parentage. Here are a few thoughts on the sources: AGBI is an index to published sources. Rather than believe what Ancestry puts on the screen, we need to access the referenced source and see for ourselves what it has to say and what sources it cites. It appears to be https://www.familysearch.org/ search/catalog/45751 . Millennium File and the Family Data Collections were collections of unsourced family group sheets acquired by Ancestry. Both are no better sources than what you find on any other unsourced family group sheet. Membership of The Church of … is another compiled source. If I’m not mistaken, Ancestral File was one of her sources. If she doesn’t specify her s

Hello to this group, please may we together continue this research. I received my information and histories personally from Effie Lenore Wiser when I went to visit her in Logan, Utah; and have the histories submitted to the ‘Daughters of the Utah Pioneers’ . I also have the research, deeds and etc., that Lana Whiting completed on the Telfords before her death. I have a book titled “Connecting: The conn- Cowen- Greenaway Families’ from County Armagh to Upper Canada” that I think may be applicable because our families came from Anna Telford daughter of John and Jane Telford, who were cousins and she married Charles Henry Stoddard. I live in Montana and my son, Theron, is coming from Utah this week-end and will be glad to share a picture of the ‘old Telford home’ in Armagh, Ireland, IF someone is interested. We descend from Anna Telford daughter of John Telford, son of George Telford son of James Telford, son of William Telford.  Telfords names, Thelford,, The

Introduction

In order to introduce myself I will give you my relationship to John and Jane Telford. My father was Ivin Lafayette Gee.  He was the son of William Erastus Gee whose mother was Geneva Eleanor Telford the daughter of John Dodds Telford and the granddaughter of John and Jane Telford cousins who married in Ireland and came to Canada and encountered the missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, went to Kirtland and then to Missouri and then to Nauvoo and then to Utah.  This Blog is created to provide dialog on the family of Jane and John and to help stimulate research.  There is room at the bottom of each post for comments.  We encourage you to use these as a means of communication, questions, thoughts and sources that you have found. We want to correct the errors on Family Search Family Tree with the best information available.
